Summer is the best season to rejuvenate, relax, and unwind yourself. However, the scorching heat of the sun makes everyone feel tired, very quickly. Especially children and aged people, find it very difficult to cope with the blazing weather. Though people take extra measures to keep themselves and their family safe from the fiery sunny weather, yet they find it difficult to cope with the increasing heatwave. Hence, to keep you, along with your family energized, and protected, even in this hot season, here are a few remedies.
Skin treatment
Skin Treatment – Due to excessive heat outside, many people fall prey to a few common skin problems like – skin tan, peeling of the skin, dry skin irritation, acne breakouts, etc… Here are some antidotes, for these skin problems.
Acne Breakouts – Although there are plenty of creams, for healing acne breakouts, baking soda is one of the easiest and most effective, natural remedies for Acne Breakouts. How? Read on…
Method – Mix some baking soda in a bowl, add water and mix it well. Apply this paste, on your face and rest for 20-minutes. After 20-minutes, wash your face with lukewarm water.
Apart from baking soda, oatmeal is also an effective treatment for Acne Breakouts. As oatmeal has cleansing properties this is a great option.
Method – Blend some oatmeal, with water and make a thick paste. Apply this mixture to your face as a face mask. Let it dry, for 15-minutes. Later, after 15-minutes, wash it completely with warm water.
Suntan – Suntan, is the most general problem, during the Summer season. Though there are a dozen sunscreen lotions, dabbing it more might result in skin problems. Instead, go natural. Method – Take a medium-sized tomato, mash it well and separate its pulp. Smear the pulpy juice to the affected areas of your skin. Allow it to dry, for 15-minutes. Post that, 15-minutes, rinse your face thoroughly with water. Repeat this method, twice a week for clearer, brighter, and glowing skin. It is also, a very effective medication for skin tan removal.
You can even use curd and honey to cure suntans. While curd acts as a natural bleaching agent, honey contains antioxidants, that help in treating damaged skin, due to suntan.
Method – Add a tablespoon of honey, to 2-tablespoons of curd, and blend well. Apply a thick layer of this mixture to your face and leave it for 15-minutes. After 15-minutes, wash your face with lukewarm water. Repeat this method, for some days, till your skin becomes tan-free.
Facial Skin Peel-Off – Skin peeling off the face, is one of the quintessential issues that crops up, for people who work longer outside, during peak summer. Hence, the remedy for this is that – Take a soft cloth, dip it in lukewarm water, and gently rub your skin, with this damp cloth.
Tip – Do not over-peel your skin, especially when it is wet.
Post this, apply aloe vera gel, to soothe and heal your skin. As aloe vera contains anti-inflammatory agents, it is very effective in curing, facial skin peel-off problems.
Other than this, you can even apply cucumber/juice made of mint leaves, to the face, or prepare a mixture of turmeric, sandalwood powder, honey, and olive oil. After which, smear this paste to your face to get rid of skin peel off.
Dry Skin Irritation – When the moisture in the skin pores reduces because of blazing summer heat, the skin tends to dry up, causing irritation/itchiness. To get treated naturally, you need to first and foremost drink, lots of water. Apart from that, applying sunflower seed oil/coconut oil acts as a natural moisturizer. Not only that, it even hydrates your skin and fills the skin pores, making it smooth.
Usage of oatmeal powder/creams, with oatmeal, helps cure the damaged dry skin. Oatmeal consists of anti-inflammatory properties, and anti-oxidants. According to a 2015 study, consuming milk regularly improves skin health, and as per another source, applying a mixture of avocado with honey, along with olive oil, as a face mask, is a best medicine for dry skin.
Hydration
Hydration – Hydration during the summer season is very important. Drinking 3-4 liters of water daily is highly recommended to keep dehydration at bay. The more, often you go out, the higher the quantity of water, you should consume. As many people, including children are not so keen, to drink water in lesser intervals, they can substitute with different flavors of fruit punches/juices/smoothies/sorbets/ice candies. This not only keeps them hydrated all day, but even helps them feel relaxed, and rejuvenated.
If not juice, at least make sure to have coconut water, once in a day. Substituting coffee/tea, once in a day with lemonades, or fresh fruit juices, is healthier. This will keep you energized, for the rest of the day. Avoid heavy workouts outside, during the summer season, as it will make you weary even after, doing one push-up or walking/running an extra mile.
Make sure to pack an adequate quantity of water, when you and your family are going out on a sunny day. Also make sure to take a few packs of electral powder with you. This will help you keep hydrated for some time. Eat vegetables/fruits, with more water content, like cucumber/tomato/orange/watermelon. You can relish, as well as regain, the lost water content, after workouts.
If you like drinking sport drinks, check the label before buying, as it might contain higher sugar content. Most of all, avoid alcohol consumption during the summer season, as it might make you dehydrated.
Clothes
Clothes – In summer time, it is ideal to wear light colored dresses, as dark colored ones, attract more heat. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing during this season, as it will not only keep you cool, but also help you feel refreshed all day, long. Cotton attires are the best suited ones during scorching heat.
Unlike, any other material, this won’t stick to your skin. You can even try wearing linen/silk dresses, as this fabric, absorbs sweat and allows your skin to breathe. Wearing loose fitting dresses, as well is more appropriate, to keep you relaxed. While traveling, make sure to pack light clothes, as you can travel at ease, exploring various destinations, even in extreme hot seasons.
Food
Food – During summer, craving for food will be comparatively less, than any other season. So, when you are having your breakfast/lunch/dinner, make sure to prepare/eat non spicy food. Include more fruits in your diet, so that you not only feel hydrated, but also will feel filled. Juicy apples/grapes/strawberries, pulpy oranges, or cool watermelons are the ones that are apt during peak summers. Drink more buttermilk, to improve your digestion, in this season.
Eat lots of leafy vegetables, onions, mint leaves, and curds to keep up with the fiery heat. Avoid eating heavy meals/fried stuff/hot drinks, and surprisingly more mangoes/ice creams to feel fitter, and healthier, this season. Mangoes/ice cream, as per a source increases, body heat.
Exercises
Exercises – To feel energized and healthy, during peak summer avoid working out, post 9 AM, as the day becomes warmer. Wear light-weight clothing during workouts, that makes you feel lighter, even after a heavy exercise regime. Do not forget to carry sunscreen lotions, to keep premature aging, sunburns, and serious skin problems at bay.
Drink adequate water/juice after aerobics/gymming/running/walking. However, do not over drink water, as it will lead to a health issue known as, hyponatremia i.e. low blood sodium. Do not over work, and reach a point where you feel faint, dizzy and sick.
